During my semester break, I went to Kondagaon in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, to work with the Dhokra craftsmen there for a duration of 2 weeks.

 

During this time, I was actively engaged with the tribal craftspeople in the area and gained first-hand experience into the process and techniques involved in the making of Dhokra work. As part of my output I tried to produce contemporary pieces that drew from these processes. 

The following is a set of photographs showcasing my final outcomes.

Process

All of the pieces shown above were made by me using the lost wax casting technique of Dhokra. All articles are made of brass. 

Other materials used in the process include various kinds of clay (clay from river banks, clay from fields, clay from anthills) and wax.
