Conscious consumerism as a macro trend has been observed in the west for quite some time now, however this trend is slowly catching on in India as well.
Recent climate events (2023-24) such as extreme heat waves, unpredictable weather, extremely poor air quality, loss of biodiversity and water crises in major metropolitan cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore have made consumers come face to face with the impending consequences of the climate crisis.
Various reports suggest that heat waves and water crises will become more and more common across India over the coming years.
Though the entire climate crisis might seem too difficult or enormous to comprehend and tackle as consumers, we must take action over what is in our control. After all, our health and survival is intrinsically linked with that of the planet. Thus, an increased sense of personal responsibility will lead to an active interest in choosing more consciously and considering brands and materials that not only take resources from the planet but also give back to it.
